Your daily Ralph- Lightning DOES strike twice!

So here’s the deal: A little over a year ago I wrote and released a novel called ‘The Cagliostro Chronicles’ It immediately took off and started selling pretty decently. July ended and it sold better in August. I was blown away. It continued to sell well throughout September and October. It remained my consistent best-selling title right through the spring. Sure the numbers had dropped off a lot from what they were, but it still sold.  The reviews were overwhelmingly positive with a few naysayers thrown in the mix every so often. But 10 five star reviews as opposed to 1 single star and 1 two star says a lot. The book had a following.

Flash forward to now. I released the second volume a few weeks ago. Sales were consistent, but not overwhelming. But it also drove sales of the first volume back up as well.

Yesterday (7/29/14) my sales of the two books exploded, giving me the best sales days I’ve ever had. I had more sales in the past two days than I ever had in a month. I have no idea what caused all of this, but I’m totally thankful for it. This is the second time in a year that this book and now series surprised me. The good thing is I’m going to start working on the third book in the series when I get back from Pulp Fest, so be prepared. It should be out before Christmas, if not earlier.

If you have NOT read the first two I suggest you check them out. They’re only $2.99 on kindle or Nook.  For Kindle go to http://tinyurl.com/cagchronII  .

Your daily Ralph- Interview with Author David White

Ralph’s Rant’s does interviews speaks to David White

RA: Hello David, and welcome to Ralph’s Rants. David let’s get right to it, you have been toiling behind the scenes for a few years is that correct?

DW: Somewhat. I have done a lot of editing and proofing for Pro Se as well as Moonstone.

RA: Now your first published work that I was aware of was a Doc Panic story in Pro Se presents. Then what seemed like a long time passed, and now you’ve had a flurry of new stories pop up. Care to talk to us about them? What they are? Who they are with? What they are about?

DW: Well most of the stuff I have is with Pro Se press, but there was my Fight Card story, and also an Avenger story for Moonstone. I had written and submitted a pretty good amount of stuff before finally getting Doc Panic published.

RA: So tell us a little about you’re behind the scenes work. You’re mostly known as an editor. What have you worked on over the years?

DW: Wow! There has been a ton, at one point I was editing at least four or five stories a month it seemed, but I have since slowed down, I still edit a little, but when I have the time, I try to write.

RA: As an editor, what was your proudest achievement?

DW: Hmmm, well for me it was getting to work on Barry Reese’s stuff, as I have always been a big Rook fan. After that I would say Chuck Miller’s creation The Black Centipede

RA: Now let me ask you the same question but as a writer?

DW: For me it was my Fight Card, because I based the main character after my pops, who I lost a few years back.

RA: As a writer, what is your greatest inspiration?

DW: Honestly for me, it is the community itself. I have met not only some awesome talent, but just down right great people that I am proud to be involved with.

RA; What made you enjoy the type of writing you do? What did you discover that made you say ‘This is for me’?

DW: Well actually Joe Gentile from Moonstone got me started on pulp, and I just fell in love with it.

RA: Who are your favorite New Pulp writers?

DW: Hmmm, man tough one, there are just so many I enjoy. If I had to say a few, Barry Reese, Chuck Miller, and Rick Nichols are up there right now, but there is also so much I have no read yet, so hard to say, but for now, that will do.

RA: David White has had several releases in the last few weeks alone, including ‘The Bridgeport Brawler’, ‘Astigmatism’ and now ‘Magee’. Did I miss any of them?

DW: I also have a story in Tall Pulp from pro Se that was just released.

RA: What was your favorite of the bunch, and why?

DW: Well while I was proud of my Fight Card, I really enjoyed creating MaGee, so he gets the nod.

RA: What does the future hold for David White, writer extraordinaire?

DW: Hahahahaha, no I don’t ever see myself in the area. I enjoy writing, but the time to just pump stuff out is just not there. Maybe once I retire I will pump more out.

RA: All right, thank you David, I appreciate you coming along for the ride and playing. We’ll all be looking for whatever you have coming up next. It was a pleasure talking to you tonight.

DW: Thanks Ralph, it was a blast!

HOWL OF THE WOLF

Airship 27 Productions unleashes the beast within with its latest title, HITWOLF by Fred Adams Jr.

“One of the hallmarks of pulp fiction was its twisted genre mash-ups,” Ron Fortier, Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor, reminds readers.  “When you consider they would combine romance bodice-rippers with cowboy stories or mystery tales with aviation action then you understand there were no combinations pulp editors wouldn’t entertain.” Which was the appeal of HITWOLF, Fortier continues.  “When Fred Adams sent me his idea of merging a gangster story with a monster twist, it totally screamed classic pulp in my mind.  There was no way we were going to pass on this one.”

It is 1969; Newark, N.J.  Former Green Beret, Jim Slate, comes home from Vietnam to live a quiet, peaceful life.  His wish is cruelly denied him when he is kidnapped by a Michael Monzo, a local gang boss who wants to rule the entire city. To do this he must destroy his rivals.

Thus Monzo recruits an occult practioner who can turn an ordinary man into a vicious werewolf and then control his actions by the use of a magic amulet.  But to carry out this heinous plan, they need a subject.  And so Jim Slate is snatched and turned into a “Hitwolf.”

But Slate is no one’s puppet and despite the curse put on him, he will not be controlled.  After he manages to escape his master, he disappears into the thousands of acres of New Jersey woodlands known as the Pine Barrens.  But Monzo has no intentions of losing his pet killing machine.  Now the manhunt begins to capture Jim Slate…dead or alive!

Fred Adams, Jr. is a western Pennsylvania native who has enjoyed a lifelong love affair with horror, fantasy, and science fiction literature and films.  He holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Duquesne University and recently retired from teaching writing and literature in the English Department of Penn State University. He has published over 50 short stories in amateur, and professional magazines as well as hundreds of news features as a staff writer and sportswriter for the now Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.  In the 1970s Fred published the fanzine Spoor and its companion The Spoor Anthology.

“HITWOLF is Fred Adam’s first published novel,” adds Fortier, “and we here at Airship 27 Productions are thrilled to be its publisher.”  The book features nine interior illustrations by Pulp Factory Award Nominated artist, Clayton Hinkle, with a painted cover by Ingrid Hardy.  Adams currently has two other Airship 27 projects in development.

THE MASKED RIDER
Wild West Tales Vol II

Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to put on its spurs and chaps to announce the release of its second Masked Rider anthology; THE MASKED RIDER – Wild West Tales Vol. II

After the bloody City War ended, the rugged landscape that was the frontier west was soon flooded by all manner of immigrants; from cowboys, pioneer settlers and an all manner of outlaws.  In their path the various Indian tribes desperate to save their lands.  Soon the mountains, plains and valleys echoed with the sounds of gunfire and bloodshed flowed like rivers in these lawless territories.

Then a masked man appeared on the scene, his twin Colts barking out justice.  He and his Yaqui partner, Blue Hawk, rode these endless trails protecting law and order wherever they went.  He was known as the Masked Rider and now he returns in three brand new gun-blazing adventures by writers Erwin K. Roberts, Bill Craig and Roman Leary.

“Our first volume was a mix of western heroes, both real and fictional,” elaborates Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor, Ron Fortier.  “This time our writers all wanted to write about this classic western pulp hero and we had no problems with that whatsoever.  He’s a great character to write.”  A popular figure in the days of the original pulps, the Masked Rider was one of the few that actually made it to the comics and appeared in his own title for many years.

This book features twelve interior illustrations by commercial artist, and teacher, Tom Rubalcave with a pulp inspired cover painting by Andy Fish, a self-confessed Masked Rider fan.

So now it’s time to saddle up, pulp readers, for classic western action as only the Masked Rider can deliver.

Review of Fight Card- The Bridgeport Brawler

Fight Card-The Bridgeport Brawler

A fantastic Foray into mid-fifties fisticuffs

By David White writing as Jack Tunney

David White just crafted a real masterpiece with his first 'Fight Card' story. It’s a story of more than boxing but about the life of a tough guy who, while not a shady character himself, falls afoul of several of them, including one thug who ends this champions boxing career.

This adventure runs for several years in the hero of the stories life, and shows him at various stages of either being at the top or all the way at the bottom.

It’s a great story about friends, family and loss, as well as crawling out of whatever pit you may find yourself in and fighting back with everything you’ve got to get to the top once again.

Being a fight card story you know it’s going to have plenty of boxing action as well as some behind the scenes story to fill things out.

All in all it was a great story, and was very enjoyable to read. Extremely highly recommended. Go get your copy today!

The world of Crystalon

When we create characters and adventures for them as writers we complete a process called 'World Building'. We place our protagonists within these worlds that are custom made for them to experience distress of one kind or another, whether it is the world outside our doors or some place entirely different or even alien. Wherever we place them will be a world that will create conflict for them and make them as uncomfortable as possible.

When creating the universe Crystalon exists in I took this practice literally and moved him from a  universe of magic, where he was the most powerful sorcerer of all, and placed him within one where magic did not exist, or at least was not thought to. It was there in Crystalon's first adventure within the pages of 'Redemption of the sorcerer, The Crystalon Saga, Book One' that our anti hero at first floundered like a fish out of water until finally realizing only he could stand against an evil and overwhelming  mysterious force, if he could regain his magical prowess.

Later he would return within the pages of 'My Enemy, Myself, the Crystalon Saga, Book Two' and after two years of living behind the scenes on this new world he found himself on, battling evil magic wherever it reared its head. But then something would happen that would draw the mighty sorcerer back to the world and parallel universe he was originally from. A universe that was now no longer the comfortable place he had spent so many of his immortal years within. It was now an alien universe to Crystalon and especially to his companions who had no experience universe hopping. Once again Crystalon was in an uncomfortable place and battling seemingly insurmountable odds, with the fate of universes at risk.
