Your Daily Ralph 3/29/14

Some good stuff going on ...

I won a flash fiction challenge yesterday (3/28/14) that I entered on a whim, to, well, challenge myself. I had to tell a story in 250 words based on the information they gave me. Here's the link to the page where the flash fiction challenge took place along with my story itself: http://www.indiesunlimited.com/2014/03/28/ralph-l-angelo-jr-wins-flash-fiction-challenge/

Now also , and this is the big one, which I'm sure you all know, I won Best New Writer in the 2014 New Pulp Awards. This is the win I'm most excited about.

Winning this was HUGE for me. I'm so psyched about this, it's like winning an Oscar or something, only a lot better with a lot less annoying people around.

Also this weekend I'm giving away copies of my YA horror novella about a group of kids in western Pennsylvania who get involved with an invasion of Monsters that want to turn the world human population into their food supply. Check it out for the Kindle, it's FREE!

Your daily Ralph- The Wind Up Kid review! 3/27/14

The Wind Up Kid review

Ron Fortier released an e-book novella recently that really captured my attention. ‘The Wind Up Kid’ is a steam punk western that was some of the best fun I’ve had reading recently. I really liked this book. In fact I liked it so much I read it all in one sitting.

The story centers on a small western town at the end of the 19th century and a traveling circus that comes to town. The circus features one very special performer, ‘The Wind Up Kid’ who is actually a robot built by the ingenious circus owner/engineer. The robot is actually a trick shot marksman. Add some bank robbers who happen to come to town on the wrong day as well as a sheriff who takes two bullets during the robbery and you have the basis for a really fun adventure.

One of the best parts about all of this is that ‘The Wind Up Kid’ is only .99 for your kindle. It was well worth reading and was the type of fun story I really like a lot. I can’t recommend this one enough, it’s a great story that brought a smile to my face. It was just fun!

Five Golden stars!

Your Daily Ralph- Beyond Sanctuary Review 3/27/14

Beyond Sanctuary review

Beyond Sanctuary by Janet and Chris Morris is a fantastic tale of magic, gods and warriors that takes place in a mystical world where all three exist side by side. The gods don’t sit down and drink with the men, but they are called upon and sworn allegiance to.  When called upon they do answer in exchange for allegiances.

The story centers on Tempus Thales, the leader of the warriors who are called the ‘sacred band of stepsons’, his sister Cime, and Niko, who is basically his right hand man.

The one warning I will give about this book is that it is not for the young or young adult crowd. It is an adults’ story set in a world of mystical sex and many perversions. So it’s not for the faint of heart. If you can look past that stuff, as I do, it becomes a great and fantastic adventure.

This is one of the most well written books I have ever read. While at times there may seem to be too much written where something much simpler would have sufficed, the final product is worth reading as the story takes on a very impressive and magical life of its own.

Well worth reading, part one of a trilogy.  Five very impressive stars.

Your Daily Ralph - Summer of Indie Blog Tour

I'm going to be participating in a blog tour for the summer here's the first blog I'm posting: http://www.robert-stanek.com/blog-tour.htm#Article_1

Your Daily Ralph- New Book release list 3/25/14

George Chance -THE GREEN GHOST!

THE GREEN GHOST RETURNS!

Airship 27 Productions is happy to announce the release of our latest classic pulp anthology featuring one of the most exciting pulp heroes ever; George Chance -THE GREEN GHOST!

Former stage magician, George Chance, by various twists of fate, becomes an eerie vigilante to help the police solve baffling, unique mysteries.  He is aided by his loyal crew made up of former glamour girl, Merry White, circus little man, Tiny Tim Terry, former bookmaker and gambler Joe Harper and Glenn Saunders, a novice magician who is his identical double.

“Initially, this series was published under the title, The Ghost, recalls Airship 27 Managing Editor, Ron Fortier.  “It was only later, after several painted cover portrayed the Ghost having a green skull face that the title was changed.  But that wasn’t the end of it.  It seems there was still another earlier Green Ghost in the pulps.  Written by Johnston McCuley, this Irish themed avenger wore a green hood over his head and was a typical crime fighting hero.  The magic background in George Chance’s career is what set him apart in a very cool way.”

Created by writer G.T. Fleming-Roberts, the Green Ghost and his team battled all manner of villainy in some of the most macabre pulp adventures ever recorded.  Now Chance & Company are back in four brand new tales as chronicled by a quarter of today’s finest New Pulp writers; Michael Panush, Greg Hatcher, B.C. Bell and Erwin K. Roberts.  In these pages the Green Ghost will face a giant mechanical monster on a long abandoned boardwalk, attempt to solve the murder of his old mentor and uncover a ring of foreign saboteurs using radio frequencies to carry out their missions of terror and destruction.

With art by the amazing Zachary Brunner and designs by Pulp Factory Award Winner, Rob Davis, George Chance – THE GREEN GHOST is another foray into the exciting world of the classic pulps.  Here are pulp thrills and spills showcasing one of the most original pulp heroes ever invented.  Brought to you by Airships 27 Productions, the new home of High Adventure.

Available at Amazon in both hard copy and on Kindle.

Enjoyed this immensely, it took me back to the days of Goonies a bit, and I loved that movie. The author perfectly captures the setting and the characters, to make this a fun and scary adventure centered around a group of young friends, and how they stand together against an evil that has been unleashed on their town. Top Notch, 5 happy stars

Your Daily Ralph! Various thoughts and ponderings 3/19/14

I won!
Yes you heard it right , I won the Award for best new writer in the New Pulp Awards for 2014. I found out Friday night and I have never been happier about something like this. I've never actually won anything before of any merit like this is, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I feel like I just won an academy award, only cooler! To be recognized for my writing is a big thing for me. This is huge. Really, really huge. I want to thank everyone who actually voted for me once again. I truly, appreciate your time. I have to tell you, this is all good. I couldn't be happier about anything than I am about this.

So what does this mean?

It means I was recognized for my writing and books in the past year. who knows what this year will bring? Hopefully more great things! If things work out I should have five more releases this year, so keep your fingers crossed. Oh and that's only counting novels, not short stories, of which I have already written three that are just awaiting editing and covers.

How do you keep up with what's coming out and when?

Your Daily Ralph- A Review of EarthStrike Agenda by Bobby Nash

Earthstrike Agenda Review

I just finished ‘Earthstrike Agenda’ by Bobby Nash. As that I’m a Sci-Fi guy and love all things about the genre I was naturally drawn to the book.

It’s a galaxy spanning adventure set in the future. And it’s a future where mankind is really the master of all he surveys, except for two things; we’re running out of space and for some reason we’ve abandoned Earth save for the wealthy who have made it a paradise for themselves. Everyone else has gone to the stars.

But out there in the depths of space awaits danger for some of mankind. There are those who would take the Earth back. They are in the form of beings of artificial intelligence, in other words androids along with humans who are known as scavengers. Between the two factions as well as those who have infiltrated the ranks of the military space patrol they have created quite a deadly force.

Earthstrike Agenda is a book that tends to jump around a bit between several main characters serving on different vessels and even a space lab in orbit around the Earth. It’s a story about a clandestine plot to take the Earth back and fill it again with refugees and those who are less savory than others.

Earthstrike Agenda is a fun read and a good story that holds your attention from cover to cover. It has enough intrigue to satisfy anyone looking for a mystery and enough action to keep everyone else happy. It’s a win-win book that’s a great read. Go get your copy today. Five Stars

_____________________________________________________________________________________

The winter doldrums have set in, and they are not a thing of beauty. One of the coldest winters in memory, with some of the worst snow has finally passed, or at least appears to be passing, who knows really? I know that here at La Casa De Angelo Central winter cannot be gone fast enough. I had a touch of the nice weather yesterday with temps rising to 66 degrees. But today its 53 and rainy and tomorrow is supposed to be 27 as a high. I'm ready for spring, that's for sure. Spring means a lot of great things. Most significantly It signifies rebirth and resurrection with Easter on the horizon.  Far less significantly it means new books will be arriving soon along with the green grass and flowering trees. It's going to be a new year of warmth and outside fun. I for one can't wait for it to happen.

_________________________________________________________________________________

So what am I working on you might ask? I know I haven't been in touch much , but I have been working nonstop on one new project or another. It should be a very "Ralph" filled spring and summer as far as new releases go. Right now I'm writing the premiere edition of the last of my long in development projects that have been floating around my skull for the last twenty or thirty years. This one is a  prose novel about a super-hero team that meets during a very small scale alien incursion, turns back the incursion and then they sit down and actually chat. They get to know each other and end up adventuring together through all sorts of circumstances. I'm more than halfway through it now, and in another two weeks it should be done, but best laid plans and all of that. We shall see. In the meantime I have two other novels with editors right now. Hopefully 'My Enemy, Myself The Crystalon Saga, Book II' is only a month or so more away.
Following that will be the next in the Cagliostro Chronicles, which is called 'Cagliostro Chronicles 2: Conflagration' Then the current WiP will released hopefully by the summer. After that I plan to write another Cagliostro Chronicle's novels for fall release.
Also this year I have written a bunch of short stories for various anthologies, all of which I am very excited about.
But one in particular really excites me; it's a short story for a volume of short stories about a modern day legendary character who is one of my favorite all-time novel character. I'm not going to say any more about that one, but when it comes out you can be sure I'll let you know. Hell, I'll be shouting through a bull horn when it happens.

In the meantime keep watching this page for all things Ralph!

"In the supernatural halls of power in the old, dusty forgotten substructures and mansions of Philadelphia there came a whisper one day. The whisper told of an artifact that could control the dead be they vampire or spirit-kind. The two pillars of power, the vampiric House of Brittingham, and the self proclaimed defenders of humanity: the Penumbra Brotherhood, acted with an immediacy almost unheard of for either faction. Both sects needed to find the item before the other because he who holds the shamanskin controls the army of the world’s undead. The denizens of Hartshorn, PA, those that sleep above ground and those that do not, know nothing of the hell that is about to rain down on them like Heaven's ejected rebellion. It is a confrontation that will decide the fate of all humankind."
